The marker at the point where the trail splits - left goes steeply up to the Old Stone Fort (note the "Be Prepared" warning on the sign). Right leads back down to the Harper's Ferry overview.
I was trying to get a picture that shows the steep incline - hard to do in pictures.
The Maryland Heights view of Harper's Ferry - looking towards Virginia (the AT climbs this mountain around here). It is hard to tell from the picture but the mountain on the VA side is definitely higher than the viewing spot here in MD.
A view of the rocks. The rock that these folks are sitting on has a couple of Civil War carvings done by soldiers.
