Harpers Ferry and the October 2011 Snowstorm

I did a hike up the north face of the mountains surrounding Harpers Ferry the day after the big October snowstorm.  The combination of snow & trees with leaves was beautiful.  The damage to the trees and the trail was extensive though - the snow stuck to the leafy trees and brought many of them down.

Can you spot the trail?  It runs off to the left half way up the picture.

The lower portion of the mountain was light snow or thin ice that broke under foot - slippery but manageable with poles.

Towards the top the snow was heavier, obscuring the trail & trail markers (the Appalachian Trail uses white blaze marks, which are hard to spot with snow on the trees).
