Here are a couple of pictures from 2 years ago looking down on Harper's Ferry from the rock formation over the train tunnel on Maryland Heights.
The Shenandoah and Potomac meet here - this is the Shenandoah coming on the left meeting the Potomac on the bottom/right. I believe that the abandoned bridge closest to the train bridge was already destroyed in Civil War photos.
Here is looking up the Potomac, to the right of the previous picture. The start of the trail is a little further down the trail on the right/lower side of the picture.
Harper's Ferry. You can make out John Brown's last stand at the lower left, and the hold church above it. The bridge in the distance is the one the AT uses to cross the Shenandoah into town.
